Sustainability
Sustainability is one of Sörling’s core values and an important part of our business model. We may not be green through and through today, but we’re well on the way. We’ve altered course toward greener operations, and by identifying shortcomings and setting them right, we’re moving toward our ultimate goal: a sustainable business at every level.
We’re working for the future. For a greener society. But to succeed in achieving real change, it’s not enough just to take tough action inside our own four walls. Because Sörling has been committed to sustainable development in the industry for so long, we include green thinking in every part of our business – internally, from product development, production and the work environment, and externally in our efforts to help our customers move toward more sustainable operations. We achieve this by e.g. designing our products to our mutual advantage. Innovative designs and smart solutions mean our products require less input material, enjoy better performance, quicker loading and unloading and reduced oil demand; our customers can cut down on both driving time and fuel consumption and we can keep the amount of raw materials low.
Our green thinking also includes our suppliers. By placing the same demands on them as we place on ourselves, we find suppliers that match us and our values, while also motivating them to make constant improvements. It’s why we require all suppliers to have at least one ISO certification, and we always request a sustainability report with precise figures on a supplier’s total carbon dioxide emissions. This makes sure all our partners are of the highest standard, and that they share our concern for the environment and commitment to it.
No man is an island. We must work together if we are to contribute to a better society and have less impact on nature. We must dare to challenge, demand higher standards and encourage each other to improve our operations, so that we can advance our industry together.
Our certifications
Because we naturally demand the same standards of ourselves as our suppliers, we also possess environmental and quality certifications. Sörling’s entire business, with its factories in Sweden and Poland, is certified according to the ISO 14001 environmental management system standard. Complying with ISO 14001allows us to follow environmental standards in a structured, systematic way and work continuously on reducing our overall environmental impact.
We also have ISO 9001 quality certification, which means we take an overall approach to ensuring the highest possible quality in our internal work, customer relations and products. We test, evaluate and manufacture each component with precision to make sure our products enjoy the highest quality and have the longest service life possible. Strong structures, correct assembly and smart designs that make maintenance and component replacement easy are important aspects where we make extra special efforts. Our goal is clear: to make products that can remain in use for many, many years.
Greenhouse Gas Protocol
We apply the Greenhouse Gas Protocol, the world’s most widely used standard for calculating the total impact of operations on the environment. This gives us a better idea of which parts of our business have the greatest environmental impact, and thus provides a clear picture of what we should prioritize to achieve a more sustainable business.
The GHG protocol is split into three different categories with a focus on:
Direct emissions from our own operations, which include emissions from our installations, production and service vehicles.
Indirect emissions from the purchase of electricity, heating and cooling for our installations.
Indirect emissions from the entire value chain, ranging from those from our suppliers, travel to and from the workplace and emissions from product deliveries, to business travel, product use and product recycling.
Sustainability
from the inside out

Sustainable factories
Our installation and processes are covered by the GHG protocol’s first two categories concerning direct and indirect emissions from our own operations, which are also the parts we have the ability to influence most. To reduce these emissions, we have concentrated on improving our factories. We are in the process of replacing our company cars with EVs. What’s more, we use only renewable electricity and we’re looking at the possibilities for sustainable heating options. The goal is for our installations to be climate neutral.

Healthy employee
It’s important for us that our employees stay well and that each individual feels useful. Not just for us or the sake of our business, but for society as a whole. We want everyone to feel they are important links in the chain – valuable key players in the success of the business. These factors are important for our remaining enthusiastic about performing efficient, high-quality work and feeling at ease in the workplace. To further enhance a sense of well-being, we invest a great deal in leadership training and internal processes to boost team spirit.
We demand high standards and a good, safe work environment where occupational accidents and injuries are avoided. Because no one should have to risk their safety by working with us, we evaluate our facilities and processes on an ongoing basis and always try to stay one step ahead and prevent accidents, rather than have to remedy them. We offer health checks and career development counselling on a regular basis to make sure our employees also feel good mentally and socially.
Diversity is essential if the group is to remain successful. Ours is an inclusive workplace that encourages differences and strengths, where everyone is at ease and feels welcome. We endeavour to increase diversity within the company, and we treat all employees the same regardless of gender, ethnicity, age, sexual orientation, religion, disabilities, and political views. We also make sure everyone enjoys equal opportunities for career development, training, and remuneration, and that everyone works under equal conditions.

Shorter transport routes
Haulage accounts for a large part of our total carbon dioxide emissions, and this is covered by the GHG protocol’s third category. This isn’t something we can avoid entirely, but we can work to improve our transport habits to reduce our emissions as far as possible. With one factory in Poland and another in Sweden, we deliver products from the factory that is closest to the end customer, which allows us to keep haulage routes as short as possible. Because we’re working hard to streamline deliveries to make fewer trips between factories, we’ve also set ourselves the goal of always hauling the maximum number of products, there as well as back, in order to improve our logistic
Innovation
for tomorrow
Innovation is our driving force. We’re constantly thinking ahead and developing innovative solutions to make our products more sustainable for the environment, our employees and our customers.

SMALLER FOOTPRINT
We choose our materials with care, and manufacture our products with the environment in mind. By reducing the amount of input materials, e.g. by using less steel, we can conserve natural resources. Less material also means lower weight, which equates to higher payloads. This, combined with new, smart designs that further increase load capacity without compromising on quality, means haulage requirements are greatly reduced.

SHORTER DRIVING TIMES, HAPPIER CUSTOMERS
While we do our best to keep carbon dioxide emissions down at the manufacturing stage, it’s just as important to concentrate on the user side and how our products can simplify and streamline our customers’ operations in ways that benefit nature. By using the right tip cylinder for each product, we reduce the amount of hydraulic oil, enable faster emptying and keep running time low – all much appreciated by our customers and the environment.

EVERY LITTLE HELPS
Much of our efforts for more sustainable products is in the details. By using small but effective means such as cable ties made from recyclable plastic, replacing steel tanks with aluminium and mineral oil with synthetic biodegradable oil, we can reduce our overall environmental impact even further.
The UN's Global
Sustainability goals
In seeking to help meet the UN’s global goals, we have chosen to focus on five items:

4.7. Education for sustainable development and global citizenship. The purpose of the goal is to ensure that all learners acquire the knowledge needed to promote sustainable development, including human rights, gender equality, non-violence, and global citizenship. We make long-term investments to strengthen our competence and increase commitment, and offer leadership training for all our employees –both in Sweden and Poland. We follow the development of our society and make sure to face the future with the right skills in the right place
5.5. Ensuring full participation of women in leadership and decision-making. It aims to ensure women’s full and effective participation and equal opportunities for leadership at all levels of decision-making in political, economic, and public life. At Sörling, we encourage the contribution of women in the industrial sector by working for greater equality in the workplace and offering facilities tailored to a mixed team and different needs. We also support women in our immediate surroundings through partnerships with local businesses aimed at the development of women and their future leadership.
8.2. Promoting national economic productivity through diversification, technological innovation and upgrading. By focusing on high-value added and labour-intensive sectors, we can achieve higher levels of economic productivity. We challenge the expected and develop new, smart solutions, and wish to inspire others in our industry to begin thinking ahead and more innovatively, so that we can jointly contribute to a better, stronger society.
11.A. Promoting national and regional development planning–and contribute to positive economic, social and environmental links between urban and rural areas. We invest for the long term, both regionally and nationally, to promote development in areas close to our operationsin Sweden and Poland.

13.3 Increasing knowledge and our ability to address climate change – by improving education, raising awareness and human capacity on how we can limit the effects of climate change. We demand high standards of customers and suppliers, and disseminate knowledge about new, innovative haulage solutions that can inspire more people to begin improvement efforts moving forward. With ISO 14001 certification, we’re one step ahead of our competitors and able to act as a leader in an industry that demands ever higher standards of sustainability and green thinking.
